Drought….Not Writer’s Block

February 10, 2010

It’s been a long time between blogs.  Simple enough statement?  Not really.  A move can be fun….a move can be exciting….a move is change.  Sometimes, change comes with a price.  We’ve moved due to the US Army (Georgia/Texas/Washington State)….the US Air Force (SoCal)….school for my husband (Spain)….school for me (L.A.)….to be closer to family members going through illness (back to Florida)…in reality, it has been an adventure.  However – we moved back to SoCal last March (rental) and moved AGAIN to a new house in December (own this one) and ENOUGH!

I was writing in flow, I was in The Zone, last year.  August through November I was going full steam.  I had a quick breakfast and sat at my desk and wrote.  Then getting ready for the move –  everything stopped.  I reluctantly left my kids in chaos (characters, dear readers, not REAL kids.)  Now I want to get back and get them out of the mess they were in when I left.  Getting back into The Zone is proving to be horrible.

There is more than a grain of truth to the belief that in order to write, you need to write!  Everyday!  Maybe it’s getting used to the new energies that swirl around in my new office.  My daughter unpacked boxes and boxes for me and organized everything for me as a gift for my birthday.  MAJOR!  Maybe it’s because I now have my desk in a niche and not out in the open.  Maybe.  I know it’s not the story.  I can see the kids sitting at a table on a patio, patiently waiting for me…..how long can they wait?  I’m writing this blog to get my head back in gear.  #WriteChat by @WritingSpirit was perfect for me this past Sunday……and Lia Keyes’ Scribblerati.com gives a boost too.  Here I go……………………..:-)

I hope your day is an OUTSTANDING one, too!

NaNoWriMo/09! Argh!

November 7, 2009

Good intentions – “I’ll write daily!”  Well……I’ll sure try but that depends on my NaNovel.

This is my first venture into NaNoWriMo.  I read all the “rules” and understood them.   Yet, I was convinced, by a loved one, to re-tool & re-start a story I had already started.  Only 500 words of that story had been written before and I did change some things about the story……..still………..It’s true, I am finding it difficult to write a NaNovel using a pre-planned story.  I already have a lot at stake in the characters and when I need to research things that come up in the story, which keeps me back from my 1,600+ words per day minimum that is needed to complete the 50,000 words that allow you to “win” NaNoWriMo/09.  I am NOT writing with abandonment; I am not writing with joy; I am not having fun.

I am re-thinking everything to do with NaNo.  I’ve pulled out the outline I had started on October 30th.  I have a lot of catching up to do this weekend to pull this off.  1,600 wpd X 6 days (as of today, 11/6/09 8:00 PM PST) = 9,600.  Oh boy.   _______________________________________________________________________

The stone of the day is = Lapis Lazuli.

Blue = Throat Chakra = Communication.  “Relieves anxiety; good for the eyes; attracts good luck”*…all of the things a writer involved in NaNoWriMo needs in November!

*From various sources on gemstones folklore.

October 21, 2009

Besides writing, one of the things I LOVE doing is making gemstone beaded jewelry.  I’m going to try to list a “stone of the day” here in this blog, as I love the folklore and metaphysical properties that go hand in hand with gemstones.  My explanation is this:  We are energy.  Everything is energy.  We are bombarded from outer space with energy and we have energy at the very core of our planet pushing itself upward.  My belief is that the very compression energy that created the stones leaves its imprint on & in each stone.

After a summer of marine layer low clouds coming inland from the ocean and the last few days with fog, I am starting my “Stone of the Day” with the much needed Sun.

Today’s stone:  A vibrant yellow — Citrine.  From the Quartz family, Citrine is used for energizing & creativity.  This stone is used to protect & cleanse the “aura” (the energy that emanates from each person) and the chakras (the major energy points/circles of the body.  Citrine can raise self-esteem & confidence; it can enhance concentration.  This beautiful  stone is one used for Abundance.  When I co-owned a store, we kept a Citrine in our cash box.

Although this is the information I use, and freely give when I make & sell jewelry, some of the above information can appear to be paraphrased from the following books.  I have read & digested the information from them for years  – **Excellent information on stones can be found in “The Crystal Bible”  (Books 1 & 2) by Judy Hall and “Stone Power” by Dorothee L. Mella.  You may also visit www.firemountaingems.com and search through their “gem notes.”

What to do?

October 16, 2009

I am deep into Dan Brown’s “The Lost Symbol” and feel conflicted.   Those of you familiar with Dan Brown’s writing know that his chapters are only a few pages long; however, each chapter does not lead to the next.  He jumps from one scene in, say, Chapter 20 and then you don’t pick it up again until, say, Chapter 24.  I find his books literary “rides.”

The problem I am facing in “The Lost Symbol”?  Easy.  On one hand I can’t put the book down, promising myself that I’ll read just another chapter.  On the other hand – I don’t want the book to end!

Back in the late 70’s, early 80’s, our family lived in the Washington, D.C. area.  The city is truly majestic.  We’ve lived in many cities & states and have also lived in Spain.  We’ve traveled widely.  But there is just “something” about D.C.   Yes, it is truly beautiful; yes, you can almost feel the power that is emanating from behind closed doors.   “Symbol” will make those of you who have already visited, want to travel to our nation’s capital again and experience it anew.  To those of you who have not had the pleasure — please consider a Spring Vacation there, but first read “The Lost Symbol.”   :-)

Hello world!

July 22, 2009

I hope you’re having an Outstanding day!  I thought I’d start this blog by just stating “where” I am at the moment.  I’m back to writing an adventure-quest for Middle Graders.  Two friends go off to help a neighbor break an enchantment that has been placed on her.  Stir in a little “magic” and I’m the one having fun!  That combined with packing up getting ready to move, you would think that would be enough to keep me busy…….However, Nooooooooooooo.  I’ve signed up for NaNoWriMo!  Oh, yes!  How to occupy every waking moment of November🙂
